On Key Aspects of Franz Karl Alters’ Lexicographic Collection

Abstract

The paper discusses the lexicographic resource „Vergleichung der kartelinischen, der gelehrten georgianischen und
vulgar-georgianischen Sprache nach den Worterverzeichnissen des Petersburger Vergleichungs-Worterbuchs mit
Anmerkungen” by the Austrian scholar Franz Karl Alter included in his book On Georgian Literature. The structure and sources
of the aforementioned part of the book will be dealt with in the present article. F. K. Alter’s lexicographic collection truly is a
most significant and distinguished work of the 18th century international Kartvelology. It contains noteworthy lexical data which
are rather valuable for the history of the study of the Kartvelian languages.
